One internet based business that can be operated from home is that of Internet Research. This generally involves conducting research online for various clients, anyone from small businesses to major corporations and law firms. Skills involved in this sort of business operation include customer service and good research skills. When it comes to the Internet, it doesn’t matter what previous experience you may have or what industry you may have trained in – all you really need to get up and running is a computer with a high speed internet connection.
The first thing to do from there is to look for jobs involving any kind of market research. These positions can involve researching the web sites of the competitors of the people you are hoping to work for, investigating their products and pricing etc, looking at potential customers, and trying to find other possible markets for your employers’ products.

If you have writing skills, then look for work as a freelance writer. Many freelance writing positions involve a degree of research. Outsourcing web sites are a good place to look for such jobs, particularly with companies who just need one off jobs on a particular subject – while it is (obviously) not ongoing work, it is nonetheless still a credit on your resume, which can only add to your chances of pursuing more permanent positions (providing that your work is high quality, of course!).
Other possibilities include writing for content websites, the most common being those which pay you a percentage of their revenue. These sites usually let you write about almost anything you choose, and thus you can research and write on any subject you please. This allows you to earn both money and experience in the process. Other similar possibilities include starting your own blog and writing about subjects that you have to research or have experience/expertise in. Writing an eBook based on your research/skills is also a great money-spinner.
The truth is, almost every business around will need some form of Internet research at one time or another, and the time involved in such operations can end up taking a lot longer than you might initially think (especially given that the web is often so filled with erroneous, unreliable and at times just plain deceptive information.) The advantage of this is that they may well need somebody to rummage through the trash to pick out the best information!
That is where you, and people like you, come in. A business will turn to a professional Internet researcher to not only find, but verify, the information found on the World Wide Web, and then translate it into whatever form the business requires.
The possibilities are literally endless – any business, from those needing financial reports to those requiring the latest fashion information, will most likely need an internet researcher at some point in its existence, whether as a one off or in an ongoing capacity. If you can successfully get in on the ground floor, you could have quite a profitable business running not long after initial set-up – because the truth is, the job itself is not all that difficult. It’s primarily a matter of time and effort. Put in the hours, and the World Wide Web could be your oyster.
